Truus Huisman

Truus has over 20 years experience in Communications with a specialisation in Public Affairs and Issues Management. Before joining the Unilever Europe Leadership team in Rotterdam as VP Sustainable Business and Communications, she was head of Global Issues, Crisis Management and Media Relations in London. Before that she was responsible for Unilever’s EU Affairs office in Brussels. Her experience outside Unilever includes management of professional organisations, e.g. as Secretary General of the European trade association in the field of tourism as well as consultancy where she worked for a number of blue chip companies such as Coca-Cola and Rio Tinto. She was a trainee with the US Congress and The European Institute in Washington, DC.
Truus studied History and Management of International Organisations at the State University in Groningen, the Netherlands. She has contributed to a number of publications and articles on issues, crises and stakeholder management, and also co-authored a book for students to study abroad. Truus has spoken and taught at numerous Communications conferences and courses around the world including the IESE Business School in Barcelona, the Rotterdam School of Management and the Elle Active Forum in Milan. In 2016, Truus has participated in the Vanguard Leadership Programme- the only initiative where senior leaders from around the world collaborate intensively to incubate commercial solutions to the problems that threaten the future of growth.
